Student Birthday Bags

google image

It's offical resting time is over!  It's time to get back to work.  I have a long list of things to do before I go back to my classroom.  As you know there are lots of little things to do to prepare the for new school year.   I like to have complete as much as possible before I get back to the classroom.   If I do one thing a day it cuts down on my stress level in August.

One of the things I do ahead of time is make birthday cards for each student.  I have to admit I sort of do the same thing every year.   I like to hand make parts of the card.  I  am keeping the same theme again this year:  Ladybugs.....so I made the same birthday card.  I found some goodies from Target.

Then I bag it all up in a simple brown bag and staple a birthday sticker on the front.  The kids are exited to see the the brown bags because they are similar to the surprise bags they get from time to time.
In addition to my gift and book each child in the class makes a creative birthday note or card for the birthday person.

If you do something special for birthdays please share.   :)

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss Activities

This was my first year celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  I wasn't sure if I could find fun things to do.  But thanks to Pinterest I ended up stretching it out for two weeks.  We did lots of fun activities.

Monday:  One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

We did graphing with goldfish crackers.

Tuesday:  I Can Read with My Eyes Shut

We made glasses with pipe cleaners and then had a photo shoot.  I made the Dr. Seuss banner in the background with old Dr. Seuss books.  We hung up our fun pictures on a bulletin board.

Thursday:  Green Eggs and Ham

I didn’t think the kids would eat much right as they arrived to school, but I was wrong.  They loved Green Eggs and Ham.  They ate seconds and thirds.

Friday:  Bartholomew and Oobleck

I wish I had pictures from this.  I was so busy making the oobleck that I did not get a change to snap pictures.  The kids loved this.  I wish I had more time for this.

Monday:  If I Ran the Zoo

Tuesday:  If I Ran the Circus

Writing Activity:  If I ran the school.

Wednesday:  My Many Colored Days

We created a bulletin board I saw on Pinterest with the other first grade class.

Thursday:  Yertle the Turtle

We painted and glued and made our own turtles and then we stacked them up.  They are so cute.

Thursday and Friday:  The Cat in the Hat/The Cat and the Hat Comes Back.
A parent made some red and white hats with bananas and strawberries and an oreo cookie.  The kids loved them.  I only wish I took a picture.

Happy Birthday Little Bug

Birthdays are so important to first graders.  When it is time for their birthdays that is all they can think of for weeks.  That is why I like to have a little gift waiting for them on their special day.  Sometimes it is a bit crazy during the school year to organize for each birthday so I like to be prepared.

I created a birthday card that goes along with our theme...

I picked up a few fun things at Target....

and each child will receive a birthday bag,

a book from the birthday box

and a bag of birthday cards from their classmates.

The birthday cards are a great way to teach the children about card making.  I will share more with you as the year goes on.
